Pretty Good for self-guided reading practice/homework

These were actually pretty good. The kids liked most of the articles and most were able to do these without help. Nothing is ever perfect, but this came close and was very effective for homework, ISS, and other times when I needed to have them work on their own, but do more than busy work.

Good, but may not be 4-8 grade level

I am a middle school Social Studies teacher and a parent of a 4th grader who is using this as practice. I will tell you that the passages, while they state are appropriate for 4-8 grade are very difficult to manage for a 4th grader. My son is on grade level in reading and is in his school's advanced program, but these passages are difficult to read and comprehend. I am pleased with the questions because they are certainly higher level. I can respect this as an educator of older students, but I want teachers to understand this can be too challenging for 4th graders. I checked the reading level of the first 2 paragraphs of the passage, "The Lost Colony," and the reading level was 10.2 grade level. That is way off for what this book is recommended. The frustration that my son encounters when working with these passages is very high.

Not as difficult as I would have liked.

These packets are very well done, however, I was hoping their levels would have been harder. I needed something for lower leveled high school students and ESL students. I can use these for some kids, but not all. They should make one for high school.
