Both my kids enjoy the songs

I bought this book and CD set to use with my toddler and kindergartener during homeschool lessons. Both my kids enjoy the songs, which are simple but catchy enough. The CDs are great because I am not always in the mood to sing. The spiral-bound book makes sharing music with little ones easy. I will continue using this book for the next few years with my daughter and even longer with my son. I am glad that I purchased Sing Along and Learn to use as part of my homeschool curriculum.

Love the songs

Love the songs! My class enjoys learning these and there are so many songs we run out of time for them all. The calendar sounds are great and two songs are perfect for Fall.

Not as substantial as I had hoped

I purchased this after reading three 5-star reviews (all that existed at the time). It is a nice set, but I am glad I got it on sale for about $15. I think I will get my money out of it. I find it VERY elementary and many of the songs could be done better. For example, "Counting Cowboy" does not actually involve counting. Only lyrics about the cowboy who counted all his animals and "always got it right." The "Animal Dance" suggests having children act out the lyrics, but the lyrics include "shake an ear" (elephant), "Shake a horn"(rhino), "shake a tail" (monkey), "shake your teeth"(alligator), and "shake a beak" (toucan). I'm all for imagination, but it seemed kind of frustrating that most of the song involved shaking things that a child doesn't have. One whole disc is short alliterative songs for each letter of the alphabet.
My 5 and 7 year seem to enjoy the songs very much as we listen to them in the car. The quality of the audio is good; the vocals dominate so that they can actually hear the words and listen to them. My 1 year old may pick up a few concepts earlier, but not anything that he wouldn't have encountered in the course of daily life. When we look at/read picture books, we already identify sounds that trains, cars, boats, and planes make. I don't need a song (If I were a Railroad train) to teach him that. Not to mention that we use more a appropiate sound for a "speedy motorboat" than "toot, toot".
Although a very few songs get into a little higher math, most of this set is for Pre-schoolers.
