PreSchool-K-In this companion to I Love You, Stinky Face (BridgeWater, 1997), a little boy has some new queries for his mother. Speaking to her by telephone, he wonders when she is coming home and asks a series of questions starting with "...what if the airplane forgets how to fly?" His mother responds to each worry with a Runaway Bunny-like solution, pledging to "...hop in the basket of a hot-air balloon," "...find the speediest shark in the ocean," or "...hitch a ride on...[a] supersonic spaceship..."-all in an effort to get back to her son. Moore's detailed, full-color drawings include such exotic locales as a lush jungle, a medieval castle, and the gangplank of a pirate ship. The amusing illustrations in muted, dreamy shades spill out over the pages, reflecting the free associations of the text. Although the formula is familiar, the message is reassuring and could be used to prepare children for times when a parent is away from home.

What if the airplane forgets to fly? Then she will jump on a camel. But what if . . . ? From hot-air balloon to pirate ship, from shark to spaceship to dragon, Mama is absolutely certain that she will brave desert, jungle, ocean, and black hole in space and return safely to park in the driveway at home with the child she loves. The palette is similar to the bright purple and green of the first book, and the double-page paintings show the child talking to Mama on the telephone while his books and toys take him on the imaginary journeys everywhere. When my son was a child, his favorite book was "I Love You Stinky Face" - the original also by author Lisa McCourt. Fast forward to the year he was leaving for college and I stumbled on this book on Amazon and knew immediately I had to have it. I wrote my long "mom"
message about how much I would miss him and how proud I was of him and snuck it into his dorm room as we were moving him in for his Freshman year of college. What a find! I hope he will keep it forever. GREAT, great stories by a great author.
