The Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire Deluxe Sticker Book
By Late2Serenity
is a great book for kids. It says on the front cover that there are over 60 stickers inside, and we counted 48. This is why I have not given it 5 stars. There are areas in the book for each sticker, or, of course, they can be used anywhere as decoration etc. The photo's are images taken from the Goblet of Fire movie.

Buy the Harry Potter 7 Collector's sticker book instead
By Avid reader
My son loved the Collector's Harry Potter 7 sticker book, so I bought this one, too. Unfortunately, the stickers in this book had a poor image quality. They were grainy and bit blurry; it looked like someone had taken a low-resolution photo of items from the film and turned them into stickers. He still enjoyed using the book, but I wasn't impressed with the cheap look of the stickers.

Nice But Not Exactly "New"

I was expecting a crisp new book and got one that had creases. But the price was right and it will do.

Inkspell (Inkheart Trilogy), by Cornelia Funke

The captivating sequel to INKHEART, the critically acclaimed, international bestseller by Cornelia Funke--available for the first time in a beautifully designed trade paperback!

Although a year has passed, not a day goes by without Meggie thinking of INKHEART, the book whose characters became real. But for Dustfinger, the fire-eater brought into being from words, the need to return to the tale has become desperate. When he finds a crooked storyteller with the ability to read him back, Dustfinger leaves behind his young apprentice Farid and plunges into the medieval world of his past. Distraught, Farid goes in search of Meggie, and before long, both are caught inside the book, too. But the story is threatening to evolve in ways neither of them could ever have imagined.

Amazon.com Review
Just a few chapters into Inkspell, Mo (a.k.a. "Silvertongue") sagely says to his daughter, "Stories never really end, Meggie, even if the books like to pretend they do. Stories always go on. They don't end on the last page, any more than they begin on the first page." A fitting meta-observation for this, the unplanned second installment in Cornelia Funke's beloved now-trilogy.

Of course, it's that sort of earnest, almost gushing veneration of books and book-loving that made the absorbing suspense-fantasy Inkheart so wonderful in the first place, with that lit-affection getting woven integrally into the plot (Inkheart being both Funke's first book in the series, and the fictitious book within that book, authored by the frustrated Fenoglio, now trapped within the book, er, within the book. Fenoglio, perhaps not surprisingly, self-referentially wishes in Inkspell that he had written a sequel to Inkheart.) Inkspell should serve as a special treat for fans of the first book, as characters from Inkheart who have found themselves in the "real world" (if there is such a thing) find themselves read back into their own mythic, word-spun world--along with some of our favorite "real-world" characters. As with the previous book, Funke's greatest accomplishment here is telling such a rich and involving (and fun!) story, while still managing sweet, subtle commentary on the nature of words and meaning. Expect a tantalizing finale, too--as Funke says, "No reader will forgive me the ending, though, without a part three." (Ages 8 and up) --Paul Hughes

From School Library Journal
Grade 5 Up–This sequel begins a year after the conclusion of Funke's popular Inkheart (Scholastic, 2003). In this fantasy world, certain readers have the power to bring characters out of books–and send them back. Meggie and Farid, apprentices to the fire-eater Dustfinger, follow him to the Inkworld, the land of the book-within-a-book, Inkheart, after he has been read back into its story by a mysterious man named Orpheus. Orpheus uses his powers to read Mortola and Basta, some of the villains of the first volume, into the story, along with Meggie's parents. In Inkworld, Meggie enlists the help of Fenoglio, the original author of Inkheart, to help create a new future for her parents and herself as palace intrigues, war, and the Silver Prince threaten. The story moves along at a rapid pace, from Farid and Dustfinger's original meeting with Orpheus to Farid's warning of Mortola's return to the shift of action to the Inkworld and the heightening conflict in both worlds. Expanding on the ideas behind Inkheart, Funke explores what might happen if authors try to change the world they have created. Familiar characters and those new to this volume are clearly drawn. This is an involving story that will draw readers smoothly to its conclusion and leave them waiting for the final volume in this projected trilogy.–Beth L. Meister, Pleasant View Elementary School, Franklin, WI

From Booklist
*Starred Review* Gr. 6-9. Readers who enjoyed Funke's Inkheart (2003) are in for a treat with this sequel, a stronger book than its predecessor. In the first volume of the trilogy, a few characters have the ability to "read" a character out of a book and into today's world. In this book the process is reversed, and most of the earlier characters are transported to the magical yet perilous and sometimes brutally violent land of the fictional book, also called Inkheart. Young Meggie has longed to visit that world, but once she travels there she realizes the consequences of her choice and the seeming impossibility of putting things right in either place. With the help of Fenoglio, the book's author, who now lives in the secondary world, she connives to turn events toward a good outcome. Though some readers will simply enjoy the adventure story, others will be intrigued by Fenoglio's reflections on the impossibility of controlling what he has created. As before, the book's focus shifts from one group of characters to another as the plot moves swiftly. An indispensable key to the numerous characters precedes the story. Readers will enjoy the many quotes at chapter headings from writers as diverse as Margaret Atwood, David Almond, Kate DiCamillo, Harper Lee, Pablo Neruda, Philip Pullman, J. K Rowling, and T. H. White. In short, a booklover's book. Carolyn Phelan

The Journey Continue...
By Amazon Customer
Inkspell is the second book in the Inkheart trilogy. Although some scenes in the book are predictable the overall story is great. It has amazing characters (you actually want to see the bad guys suffer). And is a magical journey. The story picks up one year after the events in the first book. The Silvertongue family is overwhelmed for finally being together but Meggie can't take the "Inkworld" off her mind, and so decides to visit it when Farid comes asking for her help. But just four days after her departure things go sour when the surviving Mortola and Basta try to avenge Capricorn's death attacking the family. And so we finally make our way to a world no longer bound by the covers of the book. Where the characters struggle to survive while the book/story goes on telling itself.

For those expecting the ending of this particular book to have some resolution, it doesn't. It ends like any normal chapter when you are half way through a story. That is because the story continues in the third book right where this ends. And do expect a little chronological back and forth since the main characters are split from one another.

Ink heart fan :)
By Dana C. Ahmad
I really like this story, but was a bit disappointed to see the amount of bad language in the book. While I did enjoy reading it I thought this one was a littler harder to follow with so much going on at the same time. I was disappointed at the end to just be left hanging. It leaves you no choice but to have to read the last book to get any type of closure. Which I had intended to do anyway, still I just don't like to be left hanging. But over all I love the story idea, the characters and the writers style. I'm ready to start Ink Death right now! :)

Excellent resource
By Funderburk Books & Such
I use this with my 4th graders to help them build vocabulary. After we do a unit, I am always amazed at how aware they become of these words ... they begin using them in their writing and get so excited about encountering them in their reading.

This book contains words kids will actually use (unlike those crazy words you see on Dictionary.com's word of the day!), as well as fun activities to deepen their understanding of the words. Although it has "Sixth Grade" in the title, I would recommend this for students from 4th to 8th grade, or even beyond.

An Adorable Christmas Book
By Janet Boyer
"It was December 20, only five days until Christmas, and the Littlest Tree was at a Christmas tree stand on the main street of town." -- From the book

Featuring solft watercolors on glossy pages, this delightful story tells the tale of a tiny tree's one Christmas wish: it wants someone to take it home, decorate it and put presents under its branches.

But as Christmas Eve comes to an end, all of the Christmas trees have been taken to their new homes...except for the Littlest Christmas Tree. It looks as if its wish won't come true...

...until the unexpected happens!

The Littlest Christmas Tree is a wonderful book to read to younger children during the holidays, as well as a great book for beginning readers (or those that love Christmas stories!). It's not too short, and not too long--just right for those wintry nights begging to be filled with a gentle Christmas story about wishes coming true...

Very Cute Story
By Nancy M.
The Littleest Christmas Tree is a cute book. Its a story about a Christmas tree that no one wanted to bring home becauseit was too small. All the little tree wanted was to be a Christmas tree. It has a very nice and happy ending. My daughter really enjoyed this book.

Great gift for a 2-year old...
By Angelcakes
I gave this book to my best friend's 2-year old daughter, and she loved it. She immediately delighted in the illustrations on each page and started to identify the different animals in the story. Her mom read the book to her as a bedtime story that night, and they especially enjoyed singing part of the lyrics of "O Christmas Tree" that were written into the story. I also ordered a plush stuffed Christmas mouse toy for the child to go along with the mice on the cover of the book. I thought the mice would be the ones who ended up with the littlest Christmas tree, but (spoiler alert!) the mice don't end up with the tree in the story...the squirrels who run the Christmas tree stand actually take it home and make it their own tree. No problem, the toy was still a big hit just like this book!

From School Library Journal
Grade 9 Up - All Lacie Johnson wants to do is escape from the pain that engulfs her: the pain of her father's grizzly suicide, the pain of pretending to be what she's not, the pain of having to constantly please her shallow best friend, Jenna. When Jenna drags Lacie along on an afternoon romp with two boys, Lacie expects the worst, but she is pleasantly surprised by Benji, who seems real when everyone else is fake and has secrets as dark and upsetting as her own. Slowly, they reveal themselves to one another and fall in love, giving Lacie the strength to abandon Jenna and find a true friend in another girl. As Lacie and Benji grow closer, their relationship becomes more physical. When Benji announces that he must move to Portland to escape his abusive mother, Lacie is devastated, but just when she thinks she might end it all, she's finally able to put his needs above her own. She realizes that any world in which she is loved for who she really is can be perfect. Although the book is ultimately uplifting, Lacie's pain is raw and unrelenting. James clearly understands how debilitating depression can be for adolescents. - Ronni Krasnow, New York Public Library

Gr. 7-10. To distance herself from the perfectly planned subdivision in the perfectly wonderful town where she lives, ninth-grader Lacie Johnson runs, which also gives her time to think about where she fits in, especially since her father's suicide. It's easier to stay apart, but Lacie's sometimes-friend Jenna respects no boundaries and persuades Lacie to go on a double date with her, Avery, and Benji. Rather than stay and watch Jenna and Avery make out, Lacie and Benji walk home. Gradually they get to know one another, and Benji helps Lacie reconnect with feelings she has closed away--until his family circumstances intervene. James' first-person narrative, interjected with dialogue unframed by quotation marks, brings a very real sense of being inside Lacie's head, and Lacie's fears and anxieties about opening herself to intimacy and love will resonate with young women who, like Lacie, aren't sure how far to go. Challenges of Maturity
By LitPick Student Book Reviews
Perfect World is a riveting fiction novel that tells about the challenges of adjusting to high school and becoming more
mature. Author Brian James speaks from a fourteen or fifteen year old girls point of view. The book is set in a town that has perfectly planned out houses and evenly spaced trees.

Everyone in town thinks they are perfect, and they do not talk about problems. The main character, Lacie Johnson, has many family issues though. Her father committed suicide two years earlier in their bathroom. Her mother works two jobs, and Lacie is forced to stay home to babysit her younger brother, Malky. Lacie's best friend has always been a girl named Jenna. Things have changed, and Jenna is more interested in boys and being socially accepted. Lacie is not as concerned about those things. Jenna meets a boy named Avery, and he introduces her to a boy named Benji. But as Lacie and Benji become closer, Lacie and Jenna start to grow apart. Lacie struggles to see the good in the world and feels like she is loosing everyone close to her. She starts to feel like she is going crazy just like her father.

The book is written differently than most books. The sentence structure differs. Instead of using periods the author connects similar thoughts with varying amounts of periods; they are similar to ellipses. For example, a paragraph with about fourteen lines of text has only a single period. This book is also for an audience either about to enter high school or just recently started high school. The issues are better suited for them. Some parts of the book contain sexual acts but
nothing sexually explicit.

The most interesting part of book is how the author is a man, and yet he tells the story from a teenage girl's point of view. Brian James treats the subject of fitting into high school and finding out who you are as a serious issue. As I read the book I also found it hard to put down. It keeps the reader interested in what will happen next. It shows how the world we live in may not be so perfect at all. You have to look inside yourself to find out what a perfect world is to you, and strive to get there given the circumstances that are handed to you.

So-so
By Experienced Editor
Not a bad book, but not great, either. Author has a good idea. Ultimately, though, I couldn't believe the narrative voice. It just doesn't ring true. Yes, teen girls are self-conscious, but in this case the self consciousness feels too carefully crafted rather than authentic.

Interesting but not captivating
By Reb
It's an interesting story about a teenage girl who doesn't fit in, who doesn't play by the "mean girl" rules, and who is scared and curious about her sexuality. Lacie is coping with the suicide of her father, her best friend's changing priorities, and her first boyfriend. It's a bit melodramatic and trite, but overall a well conceived novel that will appeal to young girls.

The Many Rides Of Paul Revere, by James Cross Giblin, James Giblin

Sibert Medalist James Cross Giblin takes readers on a wild and fascinating ride through the American Revolution.

Paul Revere is commonly remembered in the Longfellow legend of his Midnight Ride before the 1775 Battles of Lexington and Concord. In this bright, informative biography, Giblin follows Revere's life from his humble beginnings as a French immigrant's son to his work as a silversmith and a horse messenger amid the mounting pressures of revolution. In precise, accessible prose, Giblin chronicles Revere's daring acts -- both the famous and the overlooked. Along the way, he portrays a brave, compassionate, multitalented American patriot.

From Booklist
*Starred Review* Giblin's attractive, large-format book sets the record straight on Paul Revere's life and his role in the American Revolution. Beginning with his father's journey to America, this well-organized biography presents a lucid account of Revere's childhood, his limited education, his training in his father's workshop, his brief military career, and his adult life as a silversmith, family man, and Revolutionary War leader. In that role, he made not one, but many rides to deliver important messages. In creating his portrait of Revere, Giblin presents salient facts and intriguing details to create a well-rounded and credible image of the man. Among the many illustrations are period portraits, narrative paintings, engravings, drawings, and maps as well as photos of significant sites and artifacts. Appendixes include a time line and annotated lists of books, Internet sites, and historic sites to visit. Unlike some biographies of Revere, this one does not relate (only to refute) certain legendary "facts," though it does note the ways in which the historical record contradicts the famous poem "The Midnight Ride of Paul Revere," which is reprinted here. Giblin notes that Longfellow, in attempting to create an American hero rather than to write an accurate history, "more than achieved his goal." That's a gracious concession from a writer who has taken the latter path here, and with notable success. Phelan, Carolyn

Paul Revere for School Age Children
By FredTownWard
It was while reading The Revolutionary Paul Revere that I noticed this book at a grade school Scholastic book sale. Curious what they were teaching kids today about Paul Revere, I decided to take a chance on it, and I'm glad that I did.

IMHO The Many Rides Of Paul Revere is a remarkably well written (and well chosen) condensation of the material available in Paul Revere and the World He Lived In or Paul Revere's Ride (and for that matter the above book which is largely based on these two as well). It even includes Henry Wadsworth Longfellow's famous (if somewhat inaccurate) poem and a short guide to associated historical sites preserved in and around Boston.

I am strongly tempted now to seek out the author's other similar picture book biographies: George Washington: A Picture Book Biography, Thomas Jefferson: A Picture Book Biography, and The Amazing Life of Benjamin Franklin.

Excellence in Historical Writing
By LME
This is just about the best book I have ever read on the launching of the American Revolution. Through the pages we learn of the religious persecution that caused Paul Reveres' family to consider a new life for him in America. Following that we learn of education, apprentices, and craftsmen in the colonies. After a light primer on silver-smithing, we move on to a simple but meaningful explanation of the wars involving the Indians caught between the French and British empires.

After touching on the presence of Freemasonry (the Masons) in the colonies, the various odious taxes are shown to be the result of British debts from the French and Indian Wars. We have only finished page 16 of this terrific book and already possess a very clear understanding of the influences shaping the future United States. The book continues in this vein. It is not scholarly or dry, quite the opposite. In simple but effective language the story is vividly related and Paul Revere is shown to be an extraordinary man.

This book is written for ages 8 to 80. It would make a fine read-aloud as well.

I have read two other books by James Cross Giblin (one was about the Rosetta Stone) and found him to be a very worthwhile author. After reading The Many Rides of Paul Revere I now proclaim him to be an excellent author.

Nice, long biography
By M. Heiss
Not only is this an excellent and comprehensive biography, but it looks particularly at the events leading up to the Revolution.

It includes the text of Longfellow's "The Midnight Ride of Paul Revere" at the back. Great time line, GREAT index, and -- get this, Moms -- a WALKING MAP of Boston to see the sites mentioned in the book. Blow me away!

Tons of illustrations.
