My 18 month old recieved this book for her first birthday. At first she wasn't interested in it, but now she can't put it down. She can tell me before lifting the flap that the horse wears boxers and the turtle's underwear is purple. It is so much fun for her to read with someone, but she also sits alone and reads it to herself. She calls it her "cow book". The only downfall is that the flaps are somewhat flimsy (although, she is 18 mos and would probably tear anything!)and she has torn many of the flaps. I am sure an older child could take better care of the book.

I used to do story time for 1st and 2nd graders in a low literate school and my students loved this book, they roared at the end, and they loved seeing the different colors and hearing the rhymes. The first time I read this book to the kids they asked me to re-read it to them for the entire 30 min that i had alotted for story time! its a great book and a must have, there is so much you can do during storytime with this one!

"this is a book it is about a mouse and his mouse hole started on fire. he tripped on his tail and ended up in the hospital. i was so excited about reading this book."

Parental comment: Yes another stimulating Geronimo Stilton book. Entertaining and engaging reading activity. All the books in this series are well written. This one Isabella happened to have picked up is about and exciting day at Christmas time at the mouse hole. Original copyright 2001. The latter books in the 'Stilton' series offer more education interspersed within the storyline. this one is two dimentional in that it just follows the events at a Christmas party. No it has nothing to do with the real meaning of Christmas - - Christ. But taken as just a reading exercise vehicle there does not appear to be any intened disrepect. Suggetion - - buy the others in this worthy series first.

Cats no match for Geronimo!

This book was awesome! Geronimo and his cousin get captured by pirate cats who want to eat them for dinner. Even though I love Geronimo Stilton, I sort of liked the Black Bandit in this book. Pirates are just so cool. The part when the pirate cats were going to eat Geronimo was the scariest. The best part is when he finds a special treasure!
I like the way the book is printed with the words being different colors and styles. It has lots of pictures and maps too. It makes it easier for me to read it. I am going to read all fifty titles as they are translated from Italian to English!

I used this book for students in 1-2 grade gifted. I love how the words were in different fonts,sizes, and colors that emphasized the meanings of the words and added to the tone of the story.

They love it !

My daughter had started to read "chapter books" but found them a bit boring (lots of writing and no pictures!). To keep her motivated I reasearched and came across this serie. I bought the first 3 and she loved it. In fact she begged me to buy more books from the serie. I did get 10 more and she read them all in a couple of days! The good thing is she re-reads them to herself and her 4 year old brother. They find some stories interesting, others fun or just plain silly. I have found that, for example, the use of different fonts and colors for words in a sentence (not just word after word of black and white as she puts it) keeps her interested. I plan to buy the rest of the serie and I am sure my yougest will still find it a great read when he gets to "chapter books".

The book was about a rodent called Geronimo Stilton, who was scared of holidays, trips, ghost
and other scary things. He is also the publisher of the Rodents Gazette.
He has a sister called Thea, an annoying cousin called Trap and a nephew called Benjamin.
The reasons I liked the book:

1. It was very funny when Trap did tricks on him.
One of his tricks was to put red paint on the door so Geronimo Stilton thought it was blood.
2. I liked the part when it was the Halloween Party.
3. I also liked the Halloween Book because it had lots of things you can do on Halloween.

You should read it you know! It has information about Halloween. You will laugh when you read Traps's tricks.

I'm not sure how to really rate this book, after recently reading several books on Mrs Parks (some written by her) this book I enjoyed; however, if it is the ONLY book a pre teen or teenager is reading to learn about her they will get misinformed information. But the book does 'introduce' some good information for other research. BUT will the child(ren) do more research? Probably not. So mislead information. Another good thing this book did was each chapter was about something 'different' speaking about her journey on the bus, then growing up, her adult life after she was arrested etc. So it doesn't just center on her ride on the bus. I have mixed emotions about this book because it did have some good information but much information was misleading if you didn't know that much about Mrs. Parks

This is a delightful read for young girls. These African American girls are playing dress up with their mother's clothes. They have a great time with the garments, spraying perfume and adorning themselves with polish and pearls. The rhyme and flow of the story will provide interesting conversation with your little ones. THE GIRLS IN THE CIRCLE has dramatic illustrations with colorful and expressive scenes. The teaching points, questions, and different ideas on how to enhance your reading time prove to be beneficial for every parent. This would be a magnificent addition to any library.

Perfect for little girls

My little granddaughter(5) LOVES this book. She recently decided she likes poetry and this is her second favorite book. (Her first is 'My Feet Are Laughing'.) I would highly recommend it. It's a cute little story, with adorable pictures, about some little would-be divas getting all dressed up like the grown folks.

BIONICLE: Read the Legends!!

The book I'm reviewing is BIONICLE Adventures #4: Legends of Metru Nui by Greg Farshtey. It is based on a movie with a similar name. It is about six Matoran villagers of the island city, Metru Nui, that have been transformed into Toa, protectors of the island. They must figure out why so many Matoran are vanishing. They must also escape the Vahki enforcers and the Dark Hunters, Nidhiki and Krekka. I give this book four stars because I am very familiar with BIONICLE and have liked it for a while. There's also lots of action in the book. I would recommend this book to a friend.

If you can't beat 'em, join 'em!

I don't really like Bionicles. I have a too-be-read stack as high as my waist and adding this book to it (by my oh-so-helpful son) seemed a burden to me. But it isn't often that my son insists that I read a book, so I read it. It isn't a long story, so it took just one evening to finish. But the rewards are frigging endless!

I now know what a Toa is, why Makuta is so bleeping terrible and that Bionicles are made of protodermis! For the mother of a ten year old who is Bionicle obsessed this is serious stuff, for reals.

Here are some of the discussions that have been sparked since I finished this book;

What do you think you would do if Makuta attacked our house?

What is worse, calling someone a protopoopoo or a traitor? Answer, both are very bad.

Which Toa would you be if you were a Bionicle?

It's all about the communication and ours was hindered by my lack of knowledge about Bionicles. About the book itself, well, it's a heroes journey type of narrative, with a quest, magical artifacts and deadly beasts trying to destroy the main characters. There is a prison break, that was surprisingly well described. Greg Farshtey doesn't dumb down the story, he uses big words and I've seen my son checking a dictionary, nodding his head and mumbling, 'hmm, that's not what I thought it meant.' I'm not ashamed to say that I get teary eyed over seeing my kiddo checking a word in a dictionary.

The story is fast with a lot of action and surprisingly (to me at least, this was my first Bionicle book) a lot to laugh over as the characters bantered, teased and generally acted the smartass in a satisfyingly droll fashion.

Hi. My name is Nicholas (I feel I should express my first name)and I purchased this book. This is an AWESOME BOOK! It is based on the new Bionicle 2: Legends of Metru Nui movie. I rate it 5 stars because well, it is such a cool book! This is a real great job for Greg Farshtey (writer).

From a true Bionicle fan, Nicholas

On the side, the eight pages of "Exclusive movie pictures" are not all movie pictures. The first 6 pictures (The first 3 pages) are regular Toa Metru pictures. Pages 4-8, though, are movie pictures.

If you have to do "something" for social studies, this is OK.
Activities are not well thought out. They recommend decorating the 'treasure chest'. Fine, however the treasure chest is really small, and really flimsy. Maybe if it were made on cardstock?
I have used this book a few times already. It's 50/50 on this. Mixed review is all I can say.. if you need it buy it, but don't get your hopes up.

Engaging Map Activities

I recently used this book to reinforce geography concepts required by my curriculum. This was designed as a comprehensive unit, which allowed my students to use their newly acquired geography skills in a creative and meaningful manner. Each activity/lesson plan is detailed and purposefully written. I found the "Keep in Mind" suggestions especially helpful when working with my kids. I highly recommend this book to any teacher in the intermediate grades. Note: The treasure chest went together perfectly when printed on card stock.

I teach 5th and 6th grade and I am ALWAYS looking for new and exciting activities to help engage students in mapping concepts. This book reinforces so many great concepts that we work on with REALLY fun and engaging activities. It also allows for differentiation amongst that range of learners in my room.
